Professional Vision Overview

My professional vision is centered on creating a lasting impact in both individual lives and the larger systems that shape them. As a school counselor, I aim to work at the intersection of direct student support, advocacy, leadership, and long-term systemic change.

School counseling is more than a role; it is a vital service that bridges the gap between academic achievement and emotional well-being. My work reflects deep professionalism, trust, equity, and the cultivation of meaningful connections. By building strong relationships with students, faculty, and families, we create the foundation for true transformation.

“People don’t care what you know until they know you care.”

As a Black male counselor, I recognize the critical importance of representation and visibility within educational spaces. My presence serves as a testament to the diverse possibilities of success and a bridge for underserved student populations who may not often see themselves reflected in leadership and counseling roles.

Relationships create trust. Trust creates change. This philosophy guides every interaction I have, ensuring that students feel seen, heard, and valued as they navigate their unique journeys toward personal and academic excellence.

Excellence in School Counseling Practice

Goal: Successfully complete all remaining requirements for the Master’s in Counselor Education (School Counseling concentration) and obtain state licensure/certification by Spring 2026.

Description: This goal focuses on the technical and ethical preparation required to lead a comprehensive school counseling program. It involves mastering the ASCA National Model and state-level standards, ensuring that my entry into the profession is backed by validated clinical skills, ethical decision-making capabilities, and a deep understanding of student development across the K-12 spectrum.

Short-Term Professional Goals

Advanced Clinical Competency Development

Goal: Gain 1,000+ hours of direct and indirect clinical experience through high-impact internships in diverse school settings, focusing on evidence-based interventions for anxiety and emotional regulation.

Description: Moving beyond coursework, this goal prioritizes the lived experience of supporting students. By engaging with diverse student populations, I aim to refine my ability to deliver targeted individual and small-group counseling that addresses the growing mental health needs in schools. This includes implementing CBT-based strategies for anxiety and creating systemic protocols for emotional support.

Leadership Through Collaboration

Goal: Active participation in professional counseling organizations (ASCA, state counseling associations) to stay at the forefront of advocacy and policy changes.

Description: Leadership in counseling extends beyond the building walls. By connecting with the broader professional community, I ensure that my practice remains informed by current research, social justice trends, and national counseling standards. This participation allows me to advocate for the profession and learn from experienced leaders, ensuring I can better serve as a resource for my students, colleagues, and families.

Long-Term Professional Goals

Doctoral-Level Education

Goal: Obtain a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision (PhD) or a related field.

Description: My ultimate academic and professional goal is to transition into counselor education. By obtaining a PhD, I aim to conduct advanced research on student mental health disparities and multicultural counseling practices. I aspire to train the next generation of school counselors, advocating for systemic changes at the policy level and contributing to the scholarly discourse of the counseling profession.

Private Practice Development

Goal: Establish a specialized clinical counseling practice focusing on youth, adolescents, and multicultural equity.

Description: I envision building a private practice that serves as a sanctuary for underserved youth. This practice will offer evidence-based, culturally responsive mental health services, bridging the gap between school-based support and long-term community wellness. My focus will remain on treating anxiety and panic disorders while providing a space where diverse identities are celebrated and validated through relationship-based care.

Leadership & Mentorship

Goal: Become a leading voice in state and national counseling associations to advocate for professional standards and student empowerment.

Description: I am committed to long-term leadership within the counseling field. My vision involves mentoring new counselors of color to increase representation and visibility. By serving in leadership roles within organizations like ASCA, I aim to influence policy, dismantle systemic barriers to education, and ensure that counseling excellence remains at the heart of the school environment.
